Black smoke is usually from excess fuel. Blue smoke is usually from excess oil.
to make a diesel blow black smoke is usually done by turning up the fuel pump.all this accomplishes is to much fuel and the black smoke created is mostly un burnt fuel that is being wasted
It is completely normal for a diesel to smoke black. But, if it just now started to smoke black and everything on the truck is stock, go get it checked out by a mechanic. You could have bad fuel injectors or a dirty air filter. Start with the simple stuff first. And, I'd say from it being a 2004 Powerstroke 6.0L, that your injectors are probably bad.
it is none adjustable
screw it off

the black smoke is unburnt fuel. you need a leaner air/fuel mixture.
