Try taking out the spark plugs first, because turning the crank shaft with the plugs in creates pressure. Or it could be that there is a bent rod and the piston head is in the head wall.

∙ 14y agofor the purpose of starting the car, it is not possible by hand, but if you just want to turn the crankshaft, use a socket on the crank sprocket bolt

Check the 1996 Windstar's starter first. If the starter is working but it cant turn the motor, take a ratchet and turn the crankshaft by the front bolt. If the crank wont turn over then something inside of the engine has seized up.
