Installing a software for any type of HARDWARE is called as a DRIVER. U need to find out the driver program for your Hardware and install it and then install a hardware that u want to be recognized by an Operating System that your machine uses. U can download the driver program on your hard-drive and double click it to install. Then simply reboot your machine (ofcourse after installing the hardware). The OS is your machine will recognize the type of Hardware that you have installed, and then you can configure or USE that hardware ... in your case Sound Card .... :)

∙ 12y agoIf you have a PC, remove the power source. Lay the PC on it's side and remove cover. Find your ethernet jack at the back of your computer. Look on the inside in the same area as your ethernet. You will see several empty slots for additional cards. Choose one, insert your soundcard and puch down firmly, it should "snap" into place. Replace cover, turn on and when after it boots, it should find the appropriate driver, install it and tell you your new card in now ready to use. If you have a CD installation disc. Run it after you install the card and reboot. also your going to want to update the driver from the CD because usually the drivers on a CD are outdated,

∙ 14y agoPretty much every sound card that can work in Linux is already supported by ALSA in Ubuntu. Thus, if your sound card doesn't work out of the box, it probably isn't going to.
