You upgrade your RAM on your computer by buying RAM expansion cards for your computer. You then would have to open your computer case and you look for what look like rectangle shaped slots that are on the motherboard. These are called expansion slots and you would slide the RAM expansion card in one of these slots till the card is all the way in. You will want to put some force while putting the card in to make sure that it is properly seated in the expansion slot but you will want to also be gentle as the cards are pretty delicate and even a chip could cause it to not work properly.

The actual RAM (computer memory) is on a chip (there are several styles) that plug into a slot on your motherboard, If there is a problem with the memory chip, it must be replaced. There is no practical way to fix the memory on the chip. You should run a good memory diagnostic program to verify that you are having a memory problem.

If there is more than one memory chip, you will need to determine which one is defective. Some memory diagnostic programs will identify the memory chip layout on the motherboard and can report which chip has the problem.

Occasionally the problem is not with the chip but with the connection and removing and reinserting the memory chip may "clean" the connection and resolve the problem.
