Prose is just regular writing.
Prose is not poetry.
Prose is anything but poetry.
PROSE=POETRY
You just did. Prose is simply the counterpart to poetry; pretty much any literary work that isn't a poem is prose. These three sentences are prose as well.
However, poorly
As this haiku is written
It is poetry
And therefore not prose.
Well.. there are different approaches to analysing prose. But this is how I approach prose:
1. The first thing I consider is whether the extract is in first person, third person, dual narrative, etc.
2. Then the structure might be considered. That is, the use of punctuation, length of sentences, etc. Structure normally has something to do with the theme or the character's emotion.
3. Then consider any other techniques you can thing of and most importantly, their EFFECT. This is the most important thing in analysis of either prose or poetry. Don't forget to talk about the EFFECT of TECHNIQUES. There is no point in pointing out literary techniques and features if they are no discussed for their effect - in other words, analysed.
Here is a list of possible techniques and features:
- plosive and fricative consonants
- rhyme (although not as common in prose)
- juxtaposition
- alliteration
- sentence length
- monosyllabic vs polysyllabic words
- repetition
- punctuation
- pathetic fallacy
- naming of characters/places
- consonance and assonance
- themes and motifs
- time period under consideration
- etc.
4. Don't forget to have a clear introduction and conclusion. Also, I suggest making a plan of the essay/commentary before starting to write.
The last point I'm going to make is a repetition of something I have already said - but that's how important it is to analysis. Talk about TECHNIQUES and their EFFECTS!
Hope that helped ;)

Meter and rhyme are commonly found in poetry but are not typically present in prose writing. These elements contribute to the musical quality and structure of poems, distinguishing them from prose.

Poetic prose is a writing style that combines elements of poetry with prose, resulting in language that is more rhythmic, expressive, and imagistic than typical prose. It often focuses on creating vivid imagery, using metaphor and symbolism, and paying attention to the musicality of language.
the sentences might have musical rhythm
A prose poem is a form of poetry written in prose rather than verse. It combines the elements of poetry, such as metaphor and imagery, with the structure and cadence of prose. Prose poems often use language in a more innovative and expressive way than traditional prose to create a lyrical or evocative effect.
Prose allows for the expression of complex ideas and narratives in a clear and structured manner. It is essential for communication, storytelling, and conveying information effectively. Prose also plays a key role in literature, journalism, and academic writing.
Yes, prose can incorporate elements of rhyme and meter to create a rhythmic quality or enhance the overall structure of the writing.
