You must route a wire 12/2 or 14/2 to the receptacle from the switch in order for the switch to break the circuit. Always switch the black wire at the receptacle, not the white (neutral). <><><>
As always, if you are in doubt about what to do, the best advice anyone should give you is to call a licensed electrician to advise what work is needed.
Before you do any work yourself,
on electrical circuits, equipment or appliances,
always use a test meter to ensure the circuit is, in fact, de-energized.

How do you disconnect an electrical outlet from a light switch?

Basically you need to connect the black supply wire directly to
the outlet rather than have it go through switch. You can have two
possible conditions. The first condition is that the supply comes
to the switch box and connects to one side of the switch. The other
side of the switch goes to the outlet. In this case just remove
each black wire from the switch and connect them together with a
wirenut.
If the black supply wire goes to the outlet and there is another
black wire going to the switch then there will also be a wire
coming back from the switch. Just disconnect the wire coming from
the switch to the outlet and connect the black supply wire directly
to the outlet.

How do you wire a wall switch plus outlet?

Bring the hot power wire into the wall switch box and run
another wire out to the outlet. Tie all the whites together in the
switch box under a wire nut and shove this back into the box. Tie
the black incoming wire and the black wire going to the outlet
together and jump a wire off this to one of the screws on the light
switch. Connect the black wire going to the light to the other
screw on the light switch. Connect the white/black wire to the
outlet.

How do you wire toggle switches to outlet in same box?

The input white wire is connected directly to neutral side of
the outlet.
The input black wire is connected directly to one of the switch
posts.
Find a short piece of black wire and connect it from the OTHER
side of the switch post to the "hot" side of the outlet.
Connect the input ground wire to both the outlet and the
switch.

How do you wire a new light switch from an existing outlet?

You need to take a new wire into the outlet and to your new
switch box. Black (hot) to black and white (neutral) to white Also
splice the ground wire through. In the switch box you'll have your
new wire from the outlet and a wire going out to the new light.
Incoming black wire to one terminal on the switch and the black
wire going to the light on the other terminal. The neutral wires
get spliced together.

How do you disconnect a light switch and outlet that are tied together?

If there is a black wire going from the outlet to the switch and
the other side of the switch goes back to the outlet then just cut
these wires and connect supply wire directly to outlet. If the
supply goes to the switch first, disconnect from switch and connect
the two wires with a wire-nut. Some situations only switch one of
the two outlets in a duplex device. Do the same thing, but also
replace the outlet since the strapping between both outlets has
been removed.

How do you add an elecrtric recepticle to a on off switch.?

You can buy a device that contains one outlet and one switch. In
the current box you have t identify the supply side Black wire
(Hot). This can be done with a voltmeter. Connect the supply side
black to the switch and the brass colored screw on the outlet.
Connect the white wire to the silver screw on the outlet. You may
need to use a wire nut and multiple pigtail wires to feed the input
to switch and outlet. Depends on configuration of the switch/outlet
combination.

How do you get electricity to a wall switch when getting electircity from an outlet?

Simply run a wire from that outlet to that wall switch. Be sure
you use the exact same wire size that you find in that outlet. It
will be AWG 12/2 or 14/2. Do not mixes wire sizes. Connect the
ground to green ground screw at outlet, and white wire to silver
screw, and black wire to gold screw. At the light switch connect
all white wires together under a wire nut and push them back into
the box. Connect the ground wire to the green ground screw on the
switch. Now connect the 2 black wires you have left, power in and
power out, to the 2 screws on the switch. Does not matter which
wires you connect to the 2 screws.

How do you wire a light switch to the light then an outlet?

Assuming that you want the light switched and the outlet
unswitched and the supply voltage is in the switch box you do the
following.
Run the supply directly from the input of the switch to the
outlet. Black goes to the copper colored terminal on outlet, white
to silver colored terminal and ground to green screw. The white
wires for outlet and light can all be wired together using a
wirenut. Do the same for the grounds. Then one side of the switch
is connected to the black supply and the other side of the switch
to the black wire on the light.
