This is by gaining (-) or losing (+) electrons
To make an atom into a positive or negative ion, it loses or gains any number of electrons.
Positive ions or cations are formed when atoms lose electrons
Negative ion or anions are formed when atoms gain electrons
I am no expert but we just learned this in school. When 2 elements bond ionically they either gives away or gain an electron from another element. Because electrons are negatively charged when an element loses an electron it becomes a positively charged ion.
when an atom donate electron, it will become a positive ions.
But the things we need to concern about is the tendency of such atom to donate an electron. Most of the metal group and the transition metal have a higher tendency to donate electron and become positively charged.
An atom gains a positive charge by losing electrons.
it loses an electron
when an atom loosed electrons
when an atom gains electrons
Its charge lose an negative charge. So it is positively charged. +1
Lithium has 3 protons and 3 electrons.
An ion, or a positive ion.
It depends, a proton if is is positively charged ( +) electron if it is negatively charged ( - )
We are working on this in Physical Science class. A negative ion is larger then its parent atom. A positive ion is smaller then its parent atom. =]
When an atom loses a negative charge, when it loses an electron, it becomes a positive ion.
when an atom loose electron it become negative ion and when it gains electron it become positive ion
Its charge lose an negative charge. So it is positively charged. +1
IONS OS ION ^^A charged atom is called an ion
When the neutral atom of sodium lose an electron become the cation Na+.
The stability of the positive ion depends on the atom which removes the electron. As an example, when a sodium atom becomes positive, it is highly stable, on the contrary, when a chlorine atom becomes positive, it is highly unstable.
An ion is an atom with a positive or negative charge.

Well im not great at science but i know that a atom which gains or loses an electron will gain a negitive/positive charge and become an ion
