Sugar gliders have a membrane which extends from the fifth "finger" of each hand to the first toe of each foot. When they launch out from a tree or pole, they extend their forelimbs and legs, and the membrane catches the air like a glider. They are able to glide up to 100m.

The same as all aircraft, with shaped wings that give lift.

As a glider has no engine, it has to be towed or catapaulted up.

It then falls back to earth slowly, in order to get forward movement and airflow over the wings.

The trick is to stay up as long as possible.

For that you need to find updraughts of air, where the air lifts vertically due to the weather or terrain.

A good pilot learns to observe the likely spots from a distance and hops from one to another, gaining distance and height.

A poor pilot, lands before the tug.

they climb like anyother animal they have claws the back foot has a thumb like a monkey an they glide from place to place with a membrane that streaches from front leg to the back leg it is called the patagium they jump and they can glide

Sugar gliders can move fairly quickly on foot. They don't really look like cats and dogs when they walk or run, they just kinda scurry around. They can also glide (hence their name), by jumping off the edge of something, then outstretching the skin membranes called patagium, which are attached from their wrists to their ankles. It has been documented that a sugar glider has glided up to 150 feet.

Gliders are tree-dwelling creatures which rarely go down to the ground. They have a membrane which stretches from the equivalent of their ankles to their wrists. As they launch out into space, the membrane extends to catch the air currents, and enable these very light creatures to glide between treetops or other high points.

How a glider flies (or moves)
A glider is pulled up by a tow plane, and then released. It then relies on thermals to stay in the air.

What is the name of a flying mammal?

The only mammal capable of free flight is the bat. There are many glider species, such as the sugar glider, pygmy possum, greater glider, etc, which do not fly. They are equipped with membranes extending from their "wrists" to their "ankles" which extend and enable the glider to glide between tree tops.
