AN APPRATUS calld sonar is used to locate underwater objects and to find the depth of water.it sends out high freqncy sound viberations called ultasonic viberations,into the water.the time taken by the viberations to return is then used to calculatethe distance of the reflecting surface.

sonar is a sound. when the people sent the sound out they wait for it to return then being able to figure out how deep the ocean is.
