A pro tennis match first begins with the entrance of the players. The players will walk in with their racket bags, them carrying it, or one of the ball boys. Once they set their drinks and rackets at the bench, the lucky kid winner of the random drawing gets to flip the coin for the players to determine what side they are starting on and who is serving first. Now the players will gather at the net with the lucky winner and take a picture. Now they give their towels to the ball boys on their side and do their warm up. They hit some groundstrokes, volleys, overheads, and serves. Once they are ready, they go back to the benches, drink some water or whatever, and go back out on court. The match officially starts when the lineman says, "Ready, play."
Differently, for a match in USTA, what I compete in, the kids go out on court, and spin the racket, or the official flips a coin to determine who serves first, and what side they are on. We warm up by rallying, and taking serves, overheads and volleys. Once both players confirm they are ready, or the official declares that time is up for warm up, play either begins, or the players head back to the benches to drink and analyze opponents strenths and weaknesses.
