You have to remove the door panel and the protecting plastic behind it. After that you have to disconnect all arms from the handle. The handle is hold on two bolts. Some people remove the lock too. How do I replace door handle on Chevy 96 silverado?

Open your door. Look at the edge of the door. There is a bolt just about even with the handle. Take that out and then remove the inside door panel. There should be a whole at on the inside even with the door handle, take that out and the handle should be lose. You will then have to take apart the clips that work the lock and door latch. Its not simple, but if you are half way mechanically incline you should be able to do it.

How do you fix a door latch is already in the locked position?

To fix a door latch already in the locked position, first you pick the lock. Actually you many not need to do that unless there is only one door into the room. What you will do will depend on the type of lock. If the lock is in the door handle, there may be a small rectangular indentation underneath the door handle. If there is, put a small screw driver in it and take push it in. While it is pushed in pull out the door handle. You will then see the unit that goes into the hole in the door jam. It will have a place that you can pull back with a screwdriver. Pull it back and then you should be able to open the door. If the lock is one that will not work and you are inside. There should be some screws in the lock itself that you can unscrew and do the same thing. There are also solvents available at hardware stores that you can squirt into difficult locks that will let them open with a key.

What would make door locks on a 1999 Ford Taurus work some time and not work at times?

Most likely worn door lock actuators. Or possibly a worn/broken spring that makes outside door handle return to proper position.

Why would a car door not open?

Both from the inside and outside ? Things to try. It is unlikely that both handles are broken so we assume it is lock related. Work the lock and see if you can hear the lock moving. You can try pushing in on the door slightly while lifting the handle. There may be too much pressure on the strike plate and the lock will not release. The lock may be dry. With the window down, lift the handle and give the door a sharp pull. With the window down, spray a fair amount of WD-40 or similar lubricant into the door above the lock. The lock can be dry and slightly rusty and not release. If it is a rear door that won't open from the inside only, the child safety lock may be activated.

How do you remove the door latch cable from a 1992 Ford Ranger?

Door cable removal for a 1992 Ford Ranger1. Remove the door panel.a. Lower the window.b. Remove the window crank handle. The handle has a modeled plastic cover. Take a screw driver and pry the plastic cover of the handle. Be careful, the cover is still attached to the handle at the knob end. Remove the torx screw where the handle attaches to the window regulator.c. Remove 3 screws holding the panel on. One screw is on the elbow rest/inside door handle. The other two are located under the door panel tray (where you put your windshield scraper.d. Remove the inside door handle trim. There is a Phillips screw under the door handle.e. With a long, flat tool (a long flat screwdriver or pry bar) pry the panel off the door. Start at the front bottom and work your way around. Lift the door panel up and out to remove.2. Remove the inside door handle. Remove the 2 Phillips screws holding the handle. Slide the handle back slightly. There is a notch in the sheet metal to allow removal of the handle. Find the notch, lift up and out until the door handle clears the door.3. Disconnect the cable from the door handle. Remove the screw mounting the cable to the door handle. Hold the door handle open and rotate the cable around to release the cable end from the handle. Disconnect the plastic retaining clip mounted to the interior of the door. Pull the cable to the bottom of the door.4. Remove the door latch. Roll the window up. Take 3 screws holding the door latch. Warning: once you remove these screws, there's no going back.a. Drop the latch down a little. You can see through the access hole 2 rods. The rod for the interior lock has a threaded end. The rod is attached to the latch using a yellow plastic clip. The plastic clip has a retaining arm keeping the rod from sliding off. You can rotate the entire door latch to get a better look at it.b. With your hand pry the plastic piece keeping the rod attached to the latch. You have to pry the latch and work the rod off the plastic retaining fixture.c. Remove the second rod which attaches to the outside door handle. This removes the same way the first rod did.d. There is a 3rd rod which attaches to the exterior door lock. To remove this, put your key in the exterior lock and rotate the lock clockwise. This will allow you to see enough of the lock to remove it like the first 2 rods.e. Once you have all rods disconnected from the latch you can extract the latch from the door by rotating the latch around the window channel guide, or dropping the latch down past the window channel guide.5. With the door latch out of the door, pry the cable out from the latch body with plyers. To re-install reverse the process, just like car manuals say.- Helpful hints reassembling.1. Connect rods in this order: Outside door lock, Outside door handle, inside door lock.2. Leave the door latch loose while you are attaching the outside door lock rod. This will allow you some visual clues aligning the rod with the door lock. Also, put your key in the lock and rotate the lock clockwise to see the plastic rod clip. There was a recall of the door handle cable by NTSHA. NHTSA Campaign ID Number: 92V006000.Unfortunately, Recalls do not have to be honored for vehicles over 10 years old.

How do you open 1994 Toyota Corolla backdoor with child lock on and outside handle is broken?

Bit of a hassle, but I think I would take out the back seat, you could then slip something between the door and the frame and flip the child lock. Look at the other door to locate where the lock is in relation to the door. If this doesn't work, with the seat out, you should be able to remove the door panel and gain access to the lock from the inside and open it .
