According to 'modern' lore, its supposed to repel vampires. Like how bug spray would repel mosquitoes.
However, if you go by the original Transylvanian legend, its not mentioned at all.
As a repellent,(theoretically) garlic has been used to ward off evil spirits in religions for centuries.
In the Twilight series, the Cullen family are vampires and garlic doesn't have any effect on them. They are immune to garlic's supposed negative effects on vampires, like repelling them or weakening them.
garlic keeps vampires away
It's a common belief in vampire mythology that vampires are repelled by garlic. This varies in different vampire lore but generally, it's known that most vampires cannot eat garlic.
Garlic
garlic and sunlight
Immune is the wrong word. There are vampires that are unaffected by garlic, as it has no special meaning to vampires in general. Count Dracula had a strong adverse reaction to the stuff and from his fame the stereotype has become applied to all vampires. If you are being molested by a vampire do not count on garlic to save you.
Vampires Must Be aware of GARLIC, HUNTERS AND THEIR STAKES, AND SUNLIGHT.
