Above a certain level, noise travelling through the air can be injurious to the human auditory system. The loudest possible sound is measured at 194 decibels, hearing tissue is destroyed at 180 decibels. A jet engine at 100 feet is measured at 140 decibels and will cause permanent damage. Pain begins at 125 decibels. City traffic is 85 decibels and a normal conversation 60/65 decibels. All these factors contribute to noise pollution.

The basic reason for noise pollution is we can hear the sound within limits of 20 to 20000 decibels only. Sounds occur above the limit we cannot hear normally, this is called as Noise pollution. Friction of parts, High decibel speakers are the examples for occurring noise pollution.

It is not the noise being polluted, it is the world around us being polluted by noise.

Although it accounts for only a small number of direct injuries (hearing loss, accidents, and lack of locational awareness), noise pollution seriously affects the quality of life, especially in urban areas and around airports, factories, and construction sites.

Too much noise will cause hearing damage, in both humans and pets. Vibrations associated with noise sources can also damage objects and structures, but usually on a minor scale such as cracks in walls and windows.

Noise pollution includes jet aircraft noise, heavy machinery sounds, industrial operations, traffic and train sounds (bells, whistles, horns), neon light arcing, cacophonous crowd noise, and other sounds, such as the banging and clanging associated with repair and service operations. All of these sounds impair concentration, impede communication, and generally cause irritability for those subjected to them.

Although little can be done in urban environments, noise limitations have sometimes been placed on aircraft, trains, factories, garbage collection, and other noise-creating activities, especially during overnight hours when most people are trying to sleep.
