How does one replace the glass on the passenger side mirror in a 1993 Subaru Legacy wagon?

Go to the local salvage yard and look at the same car and maybe even guess and check how to remove/repair. If you bust it, nobody will know.

The glass is glued to a plastic backing assembly, which is attached to the power mirror motors. Very difficult to remove the backing assembly without breaking it. If your glass fell out of the backing assembly, check with Subaru or your local parts stores to see if the glass is available all by itself. If it is, hurray, you can just glue it to the plastic backing assembly, and done. However, if your glass is just cracked and still well-attached, it is best to replace the entire mirror assembly. You can also glue the new glass on top of the cracked one, and if you line them up right, only the most careful examination will see this. If you choose to replace the entire mirror assembly, open door, remove any dust plugs, remove any screws, then pry the inside black plastic protector off. You will now see 2 or 3 screws holding the mirror to the door. Before you get all happy, follow the wires from the mirror to the connector, which hopefully is not inside the big door panel. If it is inside, you must remove the big door panel first to gain access to the connector (watch out for the speaker connections as the big panel comes off). If you can unhook the connector, remove the 2 or 3 screws, and out comes the mirror. Hopefully the one you get from the junkyard is the same color as yours! Reassemble, and done. Hope the motors in your new mirror work!
