You'll need to find out what's wrong with the ABS. Once that's repaired, the light will go out. You'll need to go to a shop that can read the ABS codes, then they can figure out what's wrong. It's difficult to find an ABS code reader for the general public. Hopefully, that won't be too far in the future.

Resetting The ABS on a GMC SierraI have had this same problem with my 1990 GMC Sierra three different times over the past several years. The first two times it happened I took it back to the dealer who said the ABS is disabled if the brake and the accelerator are pressed at the same time, even for a second. Both times they charged me $40 to flip a switch to reset the ABS. Last year after I loaned my truck to my daughter I noticed that the emergency brake light was back on again. I wanted to see if I could reset it myself but was told by GMC that it "could only be reset by a GMC dealer". Nevertheless I was determined to figure out how to do it myself. Eventually what worked was to completely remove both battery cables from the battery terminals and let the truck sit for a couple of hours in order to allow the computer time to reset the ABS (letting it sit for just a few minutes didn't work). When I hooked the battery cables back up the emergency brake light was out and my ABS was working again. If this doesn't work, try putting the vehicle in neutral, engine off, and roll down the driveway. Apply the brakes, and start the vehicle while still in neutral, with the brake pedal pushed down. This cleared the light on my '95 GMC.
