It is not really a question of whether it pollutes the earth because paper is essentially wood and therefore degradable. Wood is (largely) harmless to the environment and thus it does not pollute the earth.
However, there is a problem with wasting paper. Obviously to make the paper, one must cut down a lot of trees. Trees as you should know, are essential to the environment in terms of creating oxygen, and of course for natural beauty. This is why there has been so much controversy about the cutting down of the rain-forests.
Paper is often bleached, and when you throw out paper, it's like you're throwing bleach into the earth. Bleach is poisonous, especially at the rate at which we just "throw out" paper instead of recycle it. It adds up.
The environmental impact of paper is significant, which has led to changes in industry and behavior at both business and personal levels. With the use of modern technology such as the printing press and the highly mechanised harvesting of wood, disposable paper has become a cheap commodity. This has led to a high level of consumption and waste
paper saves the environment by not wasting trees.
Well if you use less Paper that makes less trees being cut down which is made into paper.
