Because the fluids that the ant uses to sting you is an acid and soap is a base so they neatralise each other and that stops the pain for a while.

Why do you use alcohol on a wasp sting?

Before you use alcohol on a wasp sting, bee sting, hornet sting or ant bite spray WD40 on the affected area. The pain will be immediately neutralized. Stings with more poison may continue to throb but the pain is gone. The only sting that I've had that was not affected by WD40 was from a hard head catfish.

When a velvet ant stings do you die?

No, you won't die, but you'll feel like you will! The velvet ant (or Dasymutilla occidentalis) is actually a wasp that can sting multiple times, and will if provoked. If you do get stung, you'll feel pretty intense pain for about 20-30 minutes, but then your body will react the way it would to a normal bee sting.
