=Soda is usually acidic and acids take electrons from materials they come in contact with. This weakens the enamel on a molecular level and cause it to break apart in peices smaller then what can be seen. =

I just did a science project on it today. It depends on what type of meat and soda you use. But most sodas dis-color or dissolve the meat. It is very nasty, and I cant see how people cook this way! It also separates the fat from the meat.

If you boil your meat until all the protein dissolves, you are over cooking it. Even so, you can use the water with all the dissolved protein as a soup base. Add vegetables and seasoning, and you could have a nice soup, full of dissolved protein.

NO! U only use baking soda for only baking things. i would use salt and pepper for the steaks. Actually, the above answer is completely wrong. Sodium bicarbonate, also known by its common name of baking soda, is a weak alkali. By itself it does nothing, but when it is mixed with water it is mildly caustic and it will react to any acid. Since meat is made up of amino acids it will react to baking soda. As a result it will tenderize the meat.
