The ghost of Christmas present shows Scrooge the joy and love present in the lives of those around him during Christmas. This experience helps soften Scrooge's heart, making him more compassionate and empathetic towards others. He learns to appreciate the importance of generosity and kindness.

In stave 5 he shows joy at Christmas because he was actually alive. It was foretold his death would be on the night of Christmas Eve and now having made his pledge to change he was given another chance at life.
Scrooge asks if the "children" have no one to care for them or no resource (food money etc) The ghost rebukes Scrooge with his own question as asked of the portly gentlemen, Are there no Prisons, are there no work houses
