How does the lack of of atmospheric moisture in California's mohave desert cause a large daily temperature range?

The more amount of moisture is the longer the temperature can maintain because of the density of the air. The atmospheric moisture seems to act like a buffer. When the sun comes out the dryer air heats up quicker and there is nothing to keep the heat in.
