Owls have sharp talons (not claws!) and a sharp beak, so it would look pretty silly if you saw an owl eating a salad. They are carnivores, too. Owls have keen eyesight and hearing. They have the advantage of very silent flight, so mice and other rodents who have good hearing cannot hear the predator about to eat it as a midnight snack!
Owls catch their food using hearing, eyesight, silent flight and strong talons, gripping the prey in their feet.
Using hearing and eyesight to locate the prey, the owl then swoops at speed onto the prey using its powerful talons to lock onto the prey.
The have excellent night vision, and very acute hearing, helping them to find prey in the dark.
Owls eat small mammals. They really like mice and rats hunting them in the early evening. Since they are a bird of prey they have talons to catch their prey.

how is a owl able to spot and surprise its prey
The symbiotic relationship between the tawny owl and mice is that of predator/prey, respectively.
The snowy owl hunts its food.(the owl sees its prey, it dives down and grabs the prey in its talons, killing it.)It hunts its prey.
Owls have a curved beak because when they capture their prey (in many cases: mice), they need to be able to snap the top of the spine with their beaks, immediately killing their prey.
sharks capture their prey by smelling and also by scary them
A larger bird of prey or a Fox might prey on a Barn Owl, but this would be highly unlikely.
