How does turbo work on sports cars?

Exhaust gases spin a fan, which forces more air into the compression mixture for ignition. This provides a bigger explosion, and more power being produced by the engine.
However, it means that there is always a pause whilst the gases get to the fan and produce the extra power - turbo LAG. Some cars use twin turbos in sequence to get around this; some manufacturers use a supercharger which is driven from the crankshaft and therefore provides instant response that way.
