They usually don't run unless something or someone sets it off.

If that happens (Hopefully it won't) they do run very fast.

When they are out on pasture and gallop through the field, they run faster that a donkey and ponies but not a lot faster than horses. Depending on the animals size and fitness levels they will run faster than some horses.

They can run up to 30mph, but if you are planning on training one to run that fast, good luck to you. Donkeys rarely get above a fast trot.

Donkeys are only fast when they are hit with a whip apart from that they are walkers and are used to move bricks etc around.
