A cannon ball traveled at speeds up to and or exceeding 100 miles per hour this depended on how well the cannon was packed how much powder was charged and the degree the cannon barrel was angled many soldiers packed two balls connected by a large chain this increased the effectiveness of the cannon others where loaded with many smaller balls like buckshot in a shotgun.

No one answer, since there is no one cannon ball- or cannon. If we limit this to black powder smoothbore cannon firing solid round shot, the muzzle velocity will top out at ABOUT 1000 feet per second.

The main cannon of the Civil War was the 10-pound muzzle loading Parrot Rifle. However, there were many older types of cannon still in use at the beginning of the Civil War. These ranged from Revolutionary-era "grasshoppers" (small 3-pounders made of brass) up to cast iron mortars and cannon.

No old Iron sides was a ship used in the war of 1812. A British cannon ball hit the side of the ship on freshly cut replacement board. The board was strong enough to with hold the shock of the cannon ball. A sailor on the that ship called her "old Iron sides" from then on.

What was the minni-ball during the civil war?

When the minni-ball was shot from the cannon, it would fly like a cannon ball, though had a distinct whistle to it. When the minni- ball would hit ground, or other solid matter, it would explode and send shrapnel everywhere. In this way, one minni-ball could kill many soldiers at once. Doctors often times had to dig around in a wound to get every piece of shrapnel out, and not even then would everything be found. THe minni-ball was one of the worst weapons (in terms of how many it killed) of the Civil War.

Did the civil war happen in Kentucky?

Most definitely. I live in a small ton called White Mills, it is about 13 miles west of Elizabethtown, Kentucky. Yes, they made a movie, the same town. There is an old building downtown that still has the Civil War cannon ball still lodged in its exterior wall. There was a battle here towards the end of the war, it wasnt long, and the Union Army sat atop one of the hills, (now a cemetery) and bombarded the town with 2, count them, two cannon. Hence where the cannon ball came from, short battle.
