Captain Edward John Smith, (27 January 1850 - 15 April 1912) was the captain of the RMS Titanic on its maiden and only voyage (April 10, 1912). Assuming you mean as the ship was going down, then nobody will ever know as they would have died with him. The accepted line though is that he went down with his ship like a dignified captain is meant to do.
