Feedback systems are those that regulate a state or action by receiving controlling inputs that are primary or secondary outputs from the process the system intends to regulate. A good example of a negative feedback control system is the thermostat in your house.

The thermostat, which is connected to the a/c and heat system, has Mercury in it that is encased in a glass tube. As the temp gets warmer, the weight of the mercury expands and causes it to move to the opposite end of the tube, which in turn causes contacts to close on the unit, which then turns the unit on. As it cools down, it moves back to the other end of the tube, and the reverse occurs, shutting the unit off. If you have the unit in the heat mode, then it is the opposite, and closes a different set of contacts.
