Hey Amy==It's not very hard if you have any mechanical aptitude. First, take off the negative batery cable.Then takeoff the wires to the starter. Then the bolts holding the starter then work it out among the exhaust pipe. GoodluckJoe
Amazingly taking off and putting on the starter on my 91 firebird was the easiest ive had to take off in quite a while. You don't even need a 4-6 inch extension on your ratchet.

NO! the Montana is a front wheel drive minivan and the firebird is a rear wheel drive, even if they were both rear wheel drive for some reason, the firebird engine would shred the wimpy minivan trans and it would be just wrong to put a minivan trans in a firebird.

Did you put a starter on it ? If so, Then you have put the starter wires in the wrong place are you have the big battery wire touching the small wire that goes to the starter. Recheck the wiring on the starter.
The instrument clusters are wired completely different and it is a task beyond belief to change out the prongs on the wiring and get it right.

Disconnect the positive battery cable and then take out the starter bolts and remove the wires/ then put the wires onto the new starter, put the stater back on and then put the battery cable back on.
Did you put the shims back in when you replaced the starter. Maybe too tight to the flywheel. Just a guess.

disconnect the battery, jack the car's front end up or put on a lift. locate the starter and remove the two bolts. then remove the two wires ,reconnect wires to starter,then lift starter and rebolt,reconnect battery and your on your way not a hard job a front end lift or auto lift sure does help
