The original Chinese food in Australia began during the goldrushes, as some Chinese chose to establish Chinese cookshops, offering the Chinese mining community traditional Cantonese dishes based on fresh produce, fish, poultry, pork and rice. The Food culture in Australia was very limited before the influx of immigrants into Australia after WW2 when I arrived in Australia in 1958 the mos exotic cheese I could get was Kraft processed and the wildest flavour known to the average Australian palate consisted of an Indian curry the result if British colonial influence or fried sausages wit sauce on them. Chinese food was made in Chinese restaurants by Chinese Australians that has survived the white Australia policy. It wasn't until Asian people were being accepted into Australia after the Vietnam War that the influence of Chinese and other Asian cooking started to have a real impact on Australian cooking.

they had much influence in Australian cuisine: spaghetti in particular, became much more popular ... increasing popularity with pizzas, pastas, etc. In their backyards, they loved to grow vegetables - especially tomatoes and lettuce, etc. There is quite a large section of Italian food preparation needs in all Australian Supermarkets. Italian styles of food are well accepted throughout Australia.
