Bohr made fundamental contribution to understanding atomic structure and quantum physics. For example, he concieved the principle of complementarity: that items could be seperately analyzed as having several contradictory properties.

He solved the stability of the Rutherford atom and the explanation of atomic spectra.

Bohr's hunch was that a new atomic model required using the new quantum theory of light developed by Planck and Einstein.

he came up with some postulates at the time:

Bohr's First PostulateElectrons do not radiate energy as they orbit the nucleus. Each orbit corresponds to a state of constant energy (calleda stationary state).

so in other words electrons don't gradually transfer from shell to shell, they will absorb or release a photon of light. ever seen that magnesium bright light experiment?they jump in what is called a quanta of energy this quanta refers to one photon (electromagnetic or light energy). When the electron returns from a higher to a lower energystate, a photon is released.visa-vera .a quanta is like a packet of a quantity dozen eggs or pack of smokes. this jumping is called transition and the shells refered to as the transition states. example when atoms transits to a higher energy state the graph would look like a staircase insted of a line, Einstein pointed that out. at each transition state there is a halt(station) of release in eneegy radiated so they must step up or down in order to release it.he also said that an ekectron in each orbit had a specific energy.

"A transition from a higher energy state to a lower energy state means that theelectron loses energy and this energy is released as a photon of light, explaining a brightline in a bright-line spectrum. When some energy is absorbed, for examplefrom a photon of light, the electron undergoes a transition from a lower energy state toa higher one, explaining a dark line in an absorption spectrum. This was thecrucial idea that Bohr was seeking"

you should look up diagrasm for the dark-line and bright-line spectra...

Bohr's Second PostulateElectrons can change their energy only by undergoing atransition from one stationary state to another.

yup

so his postulates, that's why they are called such, are not excellent. he was using the hydrogen atom only in his calculations only got the amount of energy from the photon released/absorbed by an electron in hydrogen and he also only used hydrogen in the atomic absorption spectras. there are much more complex models now like there are 4 quantum numbers that form the new model "electron cloud" where they are not diplayed in nice 1d or 2d image. its more random and sherical and also electrons even have a directional spin neg or pos which accounts for magnetism.

im rambling but

cheers! :)

Bohr, a Nobel Laureate, laid the basis for our understanding of the nature of the atom and made important to the field of quantum mechanics. Once a friend of the German physicist Heisenberg (also a Nobel Laureate), Bohr (a Dane) rebuffed him for working in the Nazi atomic program. Bohr went on to work for the Americans in the Manhattan Project.
