The owl is often synonymous with intelligence as it dates back to the Ancient Greeks. Athena, goddess of wisdom, is often shown with an owl perching on her shoulder. It is most likely to do with the Ancient Greeks seeing the owls ability to hunt at night and mistaking it for intelligence. The fact of the matter is that owls are on the lesser scale of intelligence in birds. This is due to the way the owls brain is split up. One third of an owls brain is for sight, one for hearing, and one for everything else (hypothetically of course). So the lights are on, but nobody is home!

They aren't. They have large brains (for a bird), and they're pretty smart (for a bird), but the real geniuses of the bird world are probably crows.

Parrots are good mimics (again, partly due to the large brain), but because they sound like they're talking, people tend to think of them as smarter than they actually are. They almost certainly don't have any understanding of what they're saying beyond "making this particular noise gets me a treat" or at most "when the big animal makes that noise, then making this other noise will get me a treat."

Crows, on the other hand... some crows have been observed waiting at an intersection for a red light. When the light turns red, they fly out and put walnuts in front of car tires, then fly away. When the light turns green, the cars crush the walnuts, and the crows wait for the next red light and then swoop in and feast on the walnut meat. That's pretty brilliant... for a bird.

The saying that owls are wise is an old American Indian folktale. Owls used to be a symbol of wisdom. They are often seen as wise because of their ability to be able to see at night.

Yes. Parrots are among the more intelligent birds, and this is not just based on the fact that they can mimic a huge variety of sounds. Some species level the ability to quickly recognise symbols and learn new conceptual tasks. There are many instances of parrots, particularly African Grey Parrots, being able to perform quite remarkable tasks. More details can be found at the lated links below.

No, parrots seem the most intelligent than any other birds because they learn quicker than other birds, that's why parrots are the only birds that really know how to talk and they learn to repeat people so they learn more and have a great memory of what people say. On average, yes. However, it is all up to the individual dog and pig. Pigs that are just bred for food in farms will obviously be less intelligent than a domestic dog for a pet.
