Blood Clots in the veins of Legs is a medical condition better known as DVT or Deep Venous Thrombosis. It is potentially life threatening condition and needs treatment --the sooner the better. There are a number of predisposing factors which may lead to DVT-- trauma, History of Surgery, prolonged immobilization, oral contraceptive pill intake in women > 35 years who are also smokers, long travel history, malignancy, clotting disorder etc. The blood clot may migrate to the lungs and cause a life threatening condition known as PE or pulmonary embolism manifested by sudden onset of shortness of breath, chest pain. Hence once a person is diagnosed with DVT, immediate treatment with anti coagulants are initiated by the physician.

Acetaminophen, ibuprofen, and warm compresses are used to treat clots located in the superficial system. Anti-coagulation medications are used to treat deep venous thrombosis. Blood clots in the calf, below the knee, have a chance of being reabsorbed by the body and treatment involves monitoring the clot with an ultrasound machine. Clots located in the major arteries can be surgically removed, or treated with stronger medications such as TPA or TNKase.

Any clot breaking loose in a vein will eventually find its way to the lings, causing a pulmonary embolism. Since the vessels in the lings are so tiny, the clot(s) will clog the vessels and reduce the functional ability of the lungs. Once enough lung tissue is blocked, you can have a lung infarction (lung tissue death due to hypoxia). Generally, though, shortness of breath without exertion or light exertion will result. This is a medical emergency and should be treated as such.

All I know is that when I had my surgery I developed one im my Left lung ! are you sure you don't mean "blood clot"? because there is no such thing as a blood chit. a blood clot is when blood doesnt circulate in a certain place forming, well, a clot. this is more likely to happen with adults than kids because kids are generally more figety (blood circulates better when muscles are moved).
