Energy is measured in Joules in the SI system. Thermal energy can be measured in calories (1 calorie = 4.2 Joules) or BTU. In traditional units, energy is in ft.lbforce!

Using the standard SI units, energy is measured in Joules. If you want to measure energy spent per time unit, you are talking about power - measured in Joules/second, which is also called watts.
