because of genes you can tell the chromosomes and the traits you get from your parents.

Edited answer:

The assembly of nucleotides in the DNA stores specific genetic information.

Genetic information (DNA) is stored/encoded in the basic chemicals/proteins that make up DNA. Starting with four basic states, cells divide and mature, the way they change into organs is controlled by the arrangement of the DNA components, the arrangement of cells, and the arrangement of organs.

For a very simplified view of the concept look up Tom Conway's Game of Life. It describes a "cellular automaton" that can represent a two state DNA sequence (0/1) that can expand into various shapes.

DNA's purpose is to code for proteins. A chromosome is one super long strand of DNA, but along sections of the strand are genes. These genes are transcribed into RNA molecules through a process known as transcription. Once the RNA molecule is fully complete it is taken outside the nucleus and a Ribosome takes it. The Ribosome will read the nucleotides in groups of 3 known as codons which have a corresponding amino acid. The amino acids are linked together to form a long chain which in turn becomes a protein which after all, is the ultimate goal.

Genes are called units of?

Genes are part of every human body. They are the subunits of DNA, which stands for deoxyribonucleic acid. Each gene is specifically coded for a different task. Some genes are coded for eye color, while other genes are coded for how short or tall a person may be,

Where are your genes located in a cell?

Genes are coded into the the DNA in the nucleus of a cell.

What order is the information in DNA coded in?

No one really knows the exact order of information in DNA but DNA is coded with genes and nitrogen bases (adenine, thymine, guanine and cytosine). Adenine always pairs with thymine and guanine always pairs with cytosine. Alternating sugar and phosphate parts are along the sides of DNA and genes, nitrogen bases and nucleotides is basically the "code" of DNA.

How does each new cell get it information for survival?

A cell gets its information for survival from the DNA. The genes in the DNA contain the coded instructions for the synthesis of proteins within the cell, ensuring continuous survival.
