That is probably correct. Pink nail polish remover is remover without the acetone. According to the USBC remover with acetone is illegal but without might be okay to clean Bowling balls. It does make a difference. The ball hooks more. I think with acetone it may cause damage to the surface of the ball. I'm still researching.
