Rattlesnakes are venomous while most other snakes in their range are harmless. They have a heavy body where most others are much thinner. Rattlers have a triangle-shaped head while harmless snakes are more pointed. And, of course, rattlesnakes have rattles, the only snakes that do.

Rattle snakes are different from other snakes because they have a rattle at the end of their tail. Whenever they feel threatened they will shake their rattle to warn whoevers coming. It's almost like their saying, OK dude that's as far as you are getting without being bitten.

They are smaller and of course they don't have rattles yet. Also they can be even more poisonous than an adult because they haven't learned to regulate how much poison to inject when they strike.
