When one air mass bump into one another, the air masses usually doe not mix because the properties of the air masses are different. A front forms between the two air masses. Stormy weather often occurs along fronts.

Weather is formed by three interacting forces - the temperature of the air, the dominant air currents and the amount of moisture available.

In broad terms, the warmer the air temperature, the more moisture it can hold. When warm air meets cold air, a front forms and storms are more likely.
