Never. There is no reason this should ever be done. It is inhumane and unnecessary.
A schnauzers ears should be cropped between 6 and 10 weeks old, any later than that and your odds of them standing goes down. It is not necessary to have the cropped, however many show dogs still do this to keep the original look of the breed. The ears are usually completely heeled by 9 weeks of age if done at six weeks. It is a cosmetic surgery for dogs, just like many humans have things changed.

∙ 12y agoYou don't clip a German Shepherds ears, they stand up on their own. If they are not up by 5 or 6 months, then you tape them. You can find out about taping through online tutorials, or best case, a breeder or a vet. Some German shepherds just have soft ears and they will never stand up, but most will. If you are having problems with this, talk to a vet. It is not uncommon for the ears to come up and go back down during teething though due to where the calcium is being dispersed.
