Best Answer

The minimum amount of time a crocodile needs to stay underwater depends on its environment. It needs water submersion for hunting, protection, and health reasons. It can stay out of water for months at a time of forced to, but it will eventually start to affect its health. On its own, it will get into the water on a daily basis.

My 6 month old Candy Cane Kingsnake was just having her pre shed soak in the water bowl. She was completely submerged for a good 15 minutes! I was about to get her out and start CPR !!! LOL

She's staring at me now so, to answer the question, I know a snake can stay under water for at least 15 minutes.

I would assume older snakes can stay under longer.

So don't panic !!!

Hope this helps!!

sea snakes can stay under water for 1 hour
