Chocolate candy will stay good roughly 10 to 12 months. There may be some separation of the cocoa butter, resulting in white/gray spots or streaks before then but that is not a problem.
If the cocoa butter begins to go rancid then off flavors will appear and the candy should be thrown out (it won't make you sick, it is just unpleasant to eat).
Personally I have eaten chocolate candy much older than 12 months and had turned nearly completely white that still tasted perfectly fine (although by then there are typically very strong rancid flavors).
if you open it and leave it in a fridge, normally 4-5 days, but if you leave it in a cuboard, the 1-2 weeks. ( depends if it is white, milk or Dark Chocolate.)
As long as the chocolate is not exposed to extremes of temperature, it should last indefinitely. M&Ms travel better than a chocolate bar would.
If stored in a cool, dry place, it will be good for several months.
Sometimes if you put it in the freezer it will stay hard as long as you want it or if it's in your pocket it will melt.
