∙ 12y agoSpartan boys went to live in the barracks at the age of seven. They were often beaten with a cane, which supposedly made them stronger. They ended their training at the age of eighteen and joined the army when they were twenty. If they served honorably in the army, they became a full Spartan citizen at the age of thirty. Spartan men continue to fight until the age of sixty, where they settle down and are given a small piece of land and some helots (slaves).
