It depends on two issues. First, how long does it take each party to determine how many votes they still have to have and how long will it take them to do that. Second, if the election remains close nonetheless, there may be a recount which can take months.
Take the whole of Great Britain during a nation wide Government election as an example. It takes time to gather the ballot boxes and complete the count. Then the results need to be gathered in a central position, before the the final count is called out.Now, when dealing with a country as big as North America/Alaska - you can times the British effort by several hundred times.

On election day the polls in the US typically open a 7am, some open earlier, and usually stay open until 7 or 8pm. So on election day, it takes about 12 hours for the president to be elected.
