In general, a healthy chicken will never stop laying eggs. They will simply lay fewer eggs they get older. Usually after about five years, they become much less productive.
A chicken will lay eggs its entire life. The younger the hens, the more eggs they lay. When the hen is older, the amount of eggs will decrease.

The productive life of a layer hen is about 2 years. Hen usually start laying at about 5 to 7 months old and reach peak egg production at 11 months old. The number of eggs laid will drop at about 18 to 24 months old but some birds will continue to lay up to a year after that. Egg production will also drop when the hen molts or if nutritional needs are not met. Hens lay based on light availability, so if natural lighting conditions fall below 14 hours per day artificial lighting must be substituted or egg production will drop as a result.
