As a Niagara falls, Ontario citizen, I've been to the falls many times and i think, a good length of time to spend admiring the falls would be about 3 hours. There is a really nice lengthy walk on both the Canadian and American side that gives you a lot of really good view of the falls. All things considered, the Canadian side offers better views, and a lot more to do. And as a special kick, take a late night to go to the falls around one A.M. - it's like noontime on a summer day! Also, the lights on the falls at night is a worthwhile sight.

You can see both falls better from the Canadian side, both falls face west (Towards Ontario in Canada), so the answer to your question is, Canada has the better view of Niagara Falls than the United States.
