first, if there is such a thing as a lionfish, I've never heard of it. Second, i would have to say that it would probably live in a fish tank until it died.

......

This is the most ignorant answer I've ever had the privilege of reading...

First off yes, there are such things as lionfish... Sadly enough there are over 20 different sub species of a lionfish... Depending on which kind you purchase... they can live between 10-15 years in a well established and maintained aquarium. Oldest that I would place them wild or captive is 20 years.

There are many types of lionfish, and they generally tend to inhabit warmer, shallow water. We find a number of them in the Indian Pacific oceanic region. They are found around Australia and Malaysia, and on eastward into Polynesia as well. Southern Japan and even southern Korea are included in its range. Additionally, they lionfish has been reported in the Pacific coastal waters of Jamaica and Panama.

It should be noted that lionfish can also been found in places across the Caribbean and in the warmer coastal waters of the Atlantic. The Mediterranean and Red Seas are also home to this fish.
