How long end stage liver disease lasts varies from person to person. It can be fairly quickly, such as a month or so. It can also take several months or longer. There is simply no way to predict how long it will take, but it is typically lasts no longer than 6 months.

If you're lucky, around 2-5 years (it depends how early it was found out that the liver was failing). Although during the end of that time the person will be severely ill.

If the person has already had an episode of varicael bleeding (when there's portal hypertension around the liver due to there being so much scarring that the blood cannot flow properly, the veins leading upto the liver are put under a lot of pressure and can rupture, resulting in internal bleeding, which is dangerous if left untreated. Typically it's veins in the oesophagus that rupture althoug, sometimes it's the duodenum), they've probably got around 12-18 months (assuming they keep having banding treatments). Generally by the time the person is really jaundiced and unbearably itchy (even though they're on lots of anti-puretics) possibly with a very distended stomach, about 2-3 months.

What does stage 4 to 5 in reference to end stage liver disease with multiple serious complications mean in regard to how much longer he may live?

Answer "End stage liver disease" means the disease has progressed so far to the level where complete failure of the liver is imminent. That condition alone is really, really bad let alone the addition of multiple serious complications. There's no way of knowing how much longer he may live - only the doctor could tell you that.

What are the survival rates of people with mesothelioma?

Mesothelioma is a type of cancer with a poor prognosis. The survival rates can depend on a number of things including: the stage of the disease at the time of diagnosis, age of the patient and the area of the disease. Some patients can live with it for years and some won't even make it a year.

What is the liver disease caused by drinking heavily over many years?

Alcoholic hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver. Up to 35 percent of heavy drinkers develop alcoholic hepatitis. Symptoms may include loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain and tenderness, fever and jaundice. In its mild form, alcoholic hepatitis can last for years and will cause progressive liver damage. The damage may be reversible if you stop drinking. In its severe form, the disease may occur suddenly, after binge drinking, and it can quickly lead to life-threatening complications.Alcoholic cirrhosis is the most serious type of alcohol-induced liver disease.Cirrhosis refers to the replacement of normal liver tissue with scar tissue. Between 10 and 20 percent of heavy drinkers develop cirrhosis, usually after 10 or more years of drinking. Symptoms of cirrhosis are similar to those of alcoholic hepatitis. The damage from cirrhosis is not reversible, and it is a life-threatening disease. Your condition may stabilize if you stop drinking. Many heavy drinkers will progress from fatty liver to alcoholic hepatitis and finally to alcoholic cirrhosis, though the progression may vary from patient to patient. The risk of developing cirrhosis is particularly high for people who drink heavily and have another chronic liver disease such as viral hepatitis C.source:http://www.liverfoundation.org/education/info/alcohol/

How long can a person live with cirrhosis of the liver without treatment?

Life expectancy with cirrhosis is estimated with MELD scoring - Modelling of End-stage Liver Disease. It is an algorithm, based on blood test results and some other factors which is used to estimate life expectancy. Please see related link for MELD calculator.

How long do you have to live with hepititus c?

Life expectancy varies, depending on whether the patient develops scarring of the liver (20% of cases), as 25% of such cases lead to liver cancer and liver failure. Diet, lifestyle, and quality of treatment can all affect the life span of a patient, as well as the availibility of liver transplants in the case of failure. As such, life expectancy is unpredictable and can range from months to decades.

When a doctor tells you are at the end stages of cirrhosis and you don't have much longer to live what does that mean?

Cirrhosis is a scarred liver, normally caused by alcoholism, long-time liver disease. Since the liver is a very important organ, when it fails, you don't have much longer to live unless you get a transplant.

How long can you live with cirrhosis of the liver after being released from a hospital two months later?

The Two Forms Of Fatty Liver Disease?

Fatty liver disease is a condition that can occur in the body where the percentage of fat that is normally in the liver is elevated. There are no direct physical symptoms of a fatty liver so patients often live unaware of the condition until it evolves into a more severe liver problem. Certain forms of fatty liver are actually not harmful and do not require any medical attention. The most common ways to diagnose a fatty live is through a blood test, medical imaging to determine inflammation or through a liver biopsy to confirm the fat content of the organ. One of the ways that an individual can develop fatty liver disease is through alcohol or substance abuse. Chronic alcoholism can actually start to destroy parts of the liver. This can combine with some genetic factors that affect the way the liver metabolizes alcohol. The result is a liver that is not functioning correctly and that begins to store fat. Some of the common health problems that affect chronic alcoholics can also contribute to the severity of the disease. These factors can include malnutrition, obesity and lack of exercise. Many people who develop fatty liver disease do not abuse alcohol. This condition is known as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) or non-alcoholic steatohepatisis (NASH). Individuals with these diseases have fat deposits in the liver that kill the cells in the organ. Scar tissue forms where a large number of cells have been killed. This hardening stops the liver from functioning and can lead to cirrhosis, liver failure and potentially death. There is really no treatment for fatty liver disease because it is medically difficult or impossible to physically remove fat from the liver. Patients who have fatty liver disease often have some other contributing issues. Treating problems like diabetes, obesity, poor eating habits and substance abuse can give the liver the chance to heal itself over time. Continuing an unhealthy lifestyle, however, nearly always results in advancement of the disease to the point where liver damage becomes unavoidable and irreversible.
