∙ 14y agoThat depends entirely on the species. For small garden birds it is usually 4-6 weeks from hatching, although it is usually the parents that chase them away. Some species are cooperative breeders, where young stick with their parents to rear more young - for instance, wood-hoopoes, some species of starling, some species of gamebird, eclectus parrots etc etc etc . Apart from this, the longest any bird sticks with its parents is several months, usually for migration - examples - cranes and some waterfowl, particularly swans.

If chicks huddle directly under light it isn't warm enough and if the try to avoid being under light it is too hot (raise the heat lamp).
