It will take as long as it needs, healing time varies from person to person. If you are having issues with the piercing, this will slow the healing time down greatly because the body needs to fix what is screwed up before it can focus on closing the piercing up.

I have both of mine pierced, wasn't painful but sounded horrible and I had complications at all, it was easier to care for than my regular ear piercing. There is a risk of infection as with any other piercing. Tragus piercings are pretty safe. The only ting that I was afraid of was it being pierced too shallow. They can get aggravated when you use headphones or use the phone on that ear.If you want it sure. The only problems that I have with mine is that I couldn't wear headphones in that ear for a good 2 and a half weeks bc it would make it really sore. Get it on whicever ear you don't sleep on to make healing go easier.

If it's less than at least six months then yes, it will close in a few hours, if it's over a year and a half old it's safe to remove for a while and if it's several years old you could probably leave it out for weeks at a time, but remember that everyone's body is different and thus it could close in a couple hours at four years old, or it could stay open for weeks with nothing in it at a year.
