There is -generally speaking- no required amount of credits needed in order to apply to a four year college or university. However, the rule of thumb indicates thata four year college or university usually wants to see a good solid two semesters (30 collegecredits)of good work at a GPA particular to their school or program of study within their school. They - once again in general - do not want to see students who are still in the process of taking remedial courses that are requiredas a result ofBasic Skillstesting.I would recommend that you speak with the Transfer Counselor at the community college you are interested in, for more detailed information. I personally feel the community college is a great place to start. I started there, my family doctor started their, the president of our bank started there, as well as many successful individuals throughout all fields and occupations. So, do not be in too much of a hurry to leave the community college. You are much better offcompleting a transferable program of study at the two year school. A completed degree goes a long way when thinking about a four year school. It shows commitment, determination, perseverance, anda willingness and ability to succeed, etc. etc. - in other words a proven track record. Colleges and universities look for these indicators. Just remember to check with the Transfer Counselor at the two year school to ensure the program you a taking is indeed good for transfer. Also, ask the Counselorwhat specificarticulations the college has - including Joint Admissions programs, and Dual Admissions programs -with the four year institutions you are interested in.

∙ 14y agoThat depends on your GPA, the regard the Community College is held in, and the University's requirements. All these can vary from "Harvard", in which there is no realistic hope, to "State U." in which case you may simply ask their admission's office.
In some cases, if enrollment is down, you may even get a break.

YES - you can through a community college that will work with you. I am doing the same thing here as long as you have the necessary transferable credits or test out for the degree.I had applied for a job in Dallas (years ago) that required 41 credits and didn't get the job due to having 40. BUT - what they did do for me was including in the count of my education was to "include" ALL my certifications, my night classes and my year & a half in college with some failed or unapproved classes. They deemed me to have 40 standing credits!
