If a newer car the fuel pump is in the gas tank which means you have to remove the fuel tank. This can be quite a project, I suggest you empty the tank as much as possible since you will be lifting it. Once you remove the gas tank it takes about 10 minutes. A matter of removing about 4 bolts, pull out the old fuel pump replace with new and reinstall the tank. If you are good, maybe an hour or two. If not good I would plan on about 4 hours
I was able to remove and reinstall my fuel pump in my 540i in about an hour.
About 2 hours
you will need to drop gas tank then there is a big nut on the fuel pump turn and take out fuel pump
The fuel pump usually take about an hour and a half if you have the right tools.
gotta take it out
You take the old pump off........ then you put the new pump on.
You need to take the fuel tank out from underneath open it up remove the fuel sending unit and remove and replace the attached fuel pump.
A very long time.
Take the gas tank down as the pump is inside the gas tank.
If you know how to work on cars, about 15-20 min. tops. Disconnect the lines, take out the two bolts that hold on the pump, clean off where the fuel pump bolts to the block, install new gasket and pump and lines. Start up and check for leaks. Done
In a garage, with a lift and experience, under 3 hours. In your driveway, on the ground with no experience, all weekend.
about 2 hours
drop tank take pump assembly out of tank, unplug wires and repeat in reverse for install
Take out the back seats, then go in truk... There you will find a hatch. Take that out then remove spearker amp and its surrounding plate covers. Lift up carpeting and you will find the fuel pump cover .
Remove fuel tank--access at top of tank Remove fuel tank--access at top of tank
if your gas tank is full it will be a pain lol. Im guessing that it might take about 2 or 3 hrs for someone who dosent know what to do. I did my s10 truck in about an hr. its pretty simple but the only thing is when you replace the fuel pump most likely you will need the fuel pump assembly also. (they rust to hell) i believe its about 60 bucks new. and i think the fuel pump is about 90. i dont remember its been a few years since ive done it. Also are you sure you need a fuel pump?
unhook all fuel lines to the pump and then there are 2 bolts that hold it onto the engine, remove the bolts and the pump is off, scrape old gasket off block and install new gasket onto new fuel pump, now stick a glob of grease on you finger and inside the fuel pump hole on the engine there is a rod that has to be pushed upward so you can get the new pump into position to bolt up, take that glob of grease on your finger and push that rod upward with that glob of grease on the end of the rod to hold it upward long enough for you to get the pump bolted into place, tighten the 2 bolts and hook up all fuel lines and your done.
about 1 hour at the most
It will take a skilled mechanic approximately 5 hours to change the fuel pump in your 1991 Mercury Cougar. It can take a novice mechanic much longer.
U can have the fuel pump and fuel filter both changed in bout 1:30 and thats taking ur time.
take the fuel lines off of the pump and unbolt the 2 bolts that hold it on and pull it off, when installing you need to get some wheel bearing grease on your finger and push the rod up inside the fuel pump cavidy so it will stay up long enough for you to put the new pump in place and get the 2 bolts started and tightened down and re-hook all the fuel lines and your good to go.There is no fuel pump rod on a Pontiac motor. Just an eccentric on the cam. While installing the fuel pump tilt the top of the fuel pump towards the engine just to make sure the fuel pump arm goes under this eccentric. Reinstall the bolts and lines. That's it.
The fuel pump is in the fuel tank. You'll have to drain the tank. Unhook the fuel lines and electrical lines. Unbolt the straps that hold the tank on. There will be a lock ring to hold the fuel pump in the tank. Take this off and remove the unit. Unless you buy the sending unit and fuel pump unit as a single piece, you'll have to remove and replace the pump from the sending unit. Install in reverse order.
the fuel pump is located in the gas tank take out the back seat and take the sending unit out of the tank and fuel pump is hooked to the sendind unit...
