Though dangerous, starvation (no food or caloric intake at all) can result in weight lossin a few days. Severe calorie reduction (below 1,000 calories a day) will technically "starve" the body, and result in weight loss after about 10 or so days.

Starving yourself is not a healthy way to lose weight. Your body needs fuel to function properly. A sensible diet combined with a reasonable exercise program is the healthiest and most effective way to lose weight. Sugar MUST be present in the blood stream (glucose) to effectively burn fat. Starving causes the body to go into "fat shock" which makes the body covet fat and burn lean muscle mass. A diet of 1000 clean calories (combined fat, carbohydrate, protein) and a good work out (aerobic) will be the proper way to lose weight. The "conscientious caloric intake" method combined with exercise is the way to get fit, trim and healthy. DO NOT starve the body. You will do permanent damage.

Starving causes the body to hold on to any and all calories that you subsequently take in after your starving binge. It is as detrimental as gorging on food! It's better to reduce your eating and increase your activities. You can lose weight quickly but this IS the WORST way to lose weight. As soon as you start eating again, your body will begin to store that food as fat for the next shock treatment (starvation period). It's self-preservation. Proper diet and exercise would be much more effective in the long run. Eat plenty of fruits, veggies and meats like Turkey for more success. Even if you're just eating a turkey salad once a day, with increased water, it would be more effective than starving your body. It needs nutrition to reduce your weight and keep it off.

Starving yourself will only kill you. You may get super skiny, but you will not be full in life in the rest of your body. Besides, Why be skinny if you suffer greatly doing it? You won't enjoy it.

Starving yourself is not a good solution for weight loss. When you starve yourself, the body tries to conserve more food in order to prevent death, since it receives starvation as a signal for famine. This makes it more difficult to lose weight. Try to substitute fibre or protein for carbs instead of starving yourself. Also try to exercise in order to lose fat and to put on muscle. The muscle mass you put on will also help you burn more fat since it will use up your calories. ===ANOTHER ANSWER=== WHEN YOU STARVE YOURSELF, your body goes into "self-presevation" mode. Think of it this way; your body has a calorie and fat burning "furnace" inside. If you stop eating, your body thinks you are "stranded on a deserted island", and you have no food. What happens then is the furnace slows way down and conserves fat and calories, because your body is protecting itself and doesn't know when the next meal is coming. So you burn off much less. The best thing to do is to keep that "furnace" going, by eating 4-6 times a day, but very small poritons. That keeps the metabolism going and the furnace on high. If you are active and burn calories every day, small meals (very small) throughout the day will help you lose more weight than starving.

Starving is a terrible way to lose weight. If you stop eating, your body will shut down and it will stop burning calories & you will not lose weight & you will become sick. Consult a nutritionist eat a healthy diet & exercise. Good luck.

You begin losing weight immediately.

However, starvation is dangerous and ineffective. Most people who do drastic diets gain it all back. Rather, you should diet gradually, allowing a whole year for every 50-100 pounds you want to lose.

Here's a program for the period in which you want to lose weight:

Plenty of moderate aerobic exercise, no sweetened liquids at all, and no junk food at all. Preferably no sugar, and as little added salt and processed foods as possible. Eat 3 not-large-portioned meals/day; do not skip breakfast; and avoid sweet snacks. Limit your calories (better to consult a doctor or nutritionist concerning the amount), and weigh yourself 2-3 times/week. Ignore the sensation of hunger. If you see your weight diminishing at a safe, reasonable rate (1-2 pounds/week), keep it up.

Once you've reached your target weight, increase your calorie intake somewhat. And you can then have small amounts of sweetened foods or junk food on occasion (if at all), along with your regular foods (not instead of them). But keep checking your weight 2-3 times/week.

Avoid crash diets, diet pills etc. Avoid fatty cuts of meat. Walk as much as possible. Bicycling and swimming are good too.

More guidelines:

Don't concentrate on specific foods so much as on a balanced, healthy diet plus exercise. Plenty of moderate exercise rather than intense exercise, which can damage your joints.

Good nutrition means eating what your body needs, while ingesting as few harmful things as possible. It has also been described as getting enough of each of the major food categories (grains, fruits, vegetables, protein, dairy, etc.; plus plenty of water).

This will vary somewhat from one person to another; and I don't believe that there's any universal diet that can be prescribed for everyone. Avoid best-sellers with their perennial fad diets. And think twice before using any dietary supplements or weight-loss pills.

In general, one's starting point can be a menu of whole grains, whole-wheat bread, a good amount of vegetables, some fruits and nuts, fish, lean meats (in not-large amounts), and some dairy. However, this must be tweaked according to one's health, weight and other factors at the outset; and also adjusted over time, as one sees what works for him/her in particular.

Also...whenever you feel queasy, nauseous, constipated or otherwise not completely well, try to remember what you've eaten over the last several hours or the last day. This is one method of adjusting one's food habits.
